Baby Hat

My neighbor asked if I could make a hat and booties set for her sister who has a baby on the way. Not knowing the sex was hard but this is what I came up with. The ribbing makes it a stretchy hat so should fit a newborn for awhile. The ribbing for this hat was inspired by Busting Stitches Ribbed Hat  So if you are looking for a hat with single ribbing instead of double head over there :) She also has bigger sizes available.

  1. Super cute! I've been looking for a beanie with a stretchy band (crocheted). And I much prefer the texture of all the post stitches to plain stitching, it gives a less "homemade" feel, more of a "boutique" item feel. To me, anyway.

You have matching booties coming up with this?

    1. Thanks, there are a few hats using this stitch and I think they look great.

Hopefully I will have matching booties. I know what I would like to do but I have yet to get more of this yarn.

  2. How would you adjust this to fit a 2 year old? The hat pattern site confused me... Cute pattern I love it. :-):-)

    1. Hi there,

I would probably do 2 more increase rounds (until circle has a diameter of 5.5 inches) and then work the ribbing section until it measures 5.5 inches. Then you will want to work the last few rounds of the camel stitch for 1 inch. So the hat height will be 6.5 inches. I hope this helps :)

  7. When I finished my hat the top didn't turn out like yours (rounded). Mine looks like it started coming straight down like a 90* angle on the 6th row. Do you have a suggestion for me why I did that? Thank you!

  11. I too have trouble Erin Heinz with the hat looking "flat" on top :( I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. This Hat and Booties is so adorable and I would love to make it look as shown. Also, did you use "chunky" yarn? Grateful for any help you can give!
