PATTERN INFORMATION (Stitch Help)

How to Read Crochet Patterns

Want to learn to crochet? Stuck on what that term means in the pattern? Here is a great guide on how to read patterns http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/tip_crochet.html

Also at some stage you will come across a chart pattern. These are actually not that hard once you have learned the basics. They may seem daunting to start with but I actually prefer them over written patterns most of the time because you can see where that stitch is meant to go. Eventually I would like to be able to purchase software that allows me to write my own charts.

Here is a chart with all the symbols used in charts http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/chart_crochet.html

Here is a great guide on how to read crochet charts and how I learned http://www.craftyminx.com/2011/11/crochet-school-lesson-21-reading-crochet-charts.html

Crochet Hook Conversion Chart

This is my go to website when I need to remember what size my hooks are http://www.karpstyles.com/crochet/hook-chart.html. All my hooks have just the mm measurements on them so when working a US pattern I find I need to look up what an H hook is.

The Basic Crochet Stitches.

I live in New Zealand but I learned to crochet in US terms. I can read both US and UK patterns but I write all my patterns in US terms. I know there are those out there that get confused so hopefully this chart will be able to help you out.

More Advanced Crochet Stitches

Sometimes when working patterns you will come across cluster stitches, bobbles, puffs etc and wonder what the hell they are. This is by far the most comprehensive stitch directory I have come across. It also includes knit stitches. http://newstitchaday.com/ . With video tutorials as well as written instructions you won't go wrong here.

If you can't find what you are looking for these are my go to people for video tutorials:
